Detox Diet: How To Detox Your Body

Our bodies often tend to accumulate junk over a period of time and end up collecting in little pockets in our digestive system; and just like we clean our house every few months to get rid of the dust and dirt accumulated over a period of time we need to do that with our bodies too to get rid of the nasty toxins we accumulate through the consumption of food, drinks and even the air we breathe.

There are some pretty big misconceptions and myths about detoxifying your body that are out there and I’m going to debunk many of these myths through this article along with which I’ll give you some great insights into some of the things I do to detoxify my body.

Myth

People make the mistake of going to the extremes of fasting for days on end in their “detoxifying drive” and often end up very sick by the end of it. If you’re doing this, you’re doing it wrong! Starving your body for many days isn’t healthy at all and can lead to many health problems. Avoid starving yourself while detoxifying and stick to other methods I list below.

Tip #1: Foods To Avoid

sugarThe best way to go about detoxification is to avoid the following things in your diet for a week’s time in order to cleanse your body from toxins:

  • Sugar
  • Caffeine
  • Animal protein
  • Refined carbs

Tip #2: Foods To Eat

While you stick to a strict diet while avoiding the aforementioned foods you need to consume certain foods that will help your body in flushing out the toxins you intend to get rid of. Here are a list of items you should include in your diet during the detox week:

  • Veggies
  • Whole grains
  • Nuts
  • Seeds
  • Lots and lots of water
  • Fresh fruits

Tip #3: Fitness Routine

Through the detox week you should ensure that you maintain regular low intensity workouts as they help you get rid of the underlying toxins beneath the surface of your skin. Your body tends to accumulate a lot of toxins beneath the skin from the air pollution and junk food we eat. A steady cardio routine coupled with steam and sauna after your workout will open up the pores of your skin and get rid of the toxins underneath your skin.

Doing these things will not only clean the insides of your body as a whole (primarily your digestive system) but also add a glow to your skin. You’ll feel fresher, more energetic and you’ll be less prone to diseases. As they say, the health of your body from the inside reflects on the outside and a detox diet helps you not only feel healthy but also look healthy.
