A lot of people often think that being on a diet means eating bland food that tastes really bad. This is one of the biggest misconceptions around and I’ve dispelled it time after time. I’ve always pepped up my nutrition plan with some tasty snacks that I can munch on every now and then when I get hungry between meals and not only does this quell my hunger but it also keeps my taste buds happy. I’m going to share with you some healthy snacks that I sneak into my diet without compromising on my macro nutrient requirements.
Apple And Peanut Butter
Yummy! I’m already drooling thinking of this wonderfully nutritious and tasty snack. The best part about this snack is that it’s so easy to prepare. All you need is a fresh apple and pre-prepared peanut butter. Cut up the apple, dip it in the peanut butter and relish the awesomeness of this snack. Apple is absolutely fantastic for your immune system and peanut butter is high in protein with a good amount of carbs and good fat to keep your energy levels high through the day.
Trail mix is so good because they’re very easy to carry around and you can keep munching if you get hungry between meals. They provide a great balance between protein, fat and carbs. Here’s my recipe:
- Toasted Oats
- Puffed Rice
- Bran Flakes
Give it a good mix and you’ll have an amazing snack that you can carry around with you wherever you go. It’s tasty, healthy and a great snack to have with you when you’re traveling. Make sure you eat only a handful or two in total through the day.
Cottage Cheese With Berries
Cottage cheese is a good source of protein and when mixed with berries they not only become a great, tasty snack but also work wonderfully well with your health. Berries are known to have anti-oxidant properties which boost your immune system’s functioning. Grab cottage cheese, berries (blackberries, blueberries, cranberries and strawberries) and mix them up in a 1:1 portion.
Veggies Dipped In Hummus
Eating veggies could never be more fun! Eating my veggies with hummus has always kept my taste buds and waistline happy, all at the same time. Hummus is one of those tasty food items that no one ever believes is healthy, but it really is. Believe it or not, it’s made of chickpeas. Now cut up your favorite vegetables, dip them in hummus and enjoy this delicious snack.
Greek Yogurt And Fruit
Greek yogurt is high in protein, has no fat and when combined with fruits makes a delectable snack. Go to the nearest supermarket and buy non-fat Greek yogurt (unflavored), cut up some of your favorite fruits and berries, mix them together and eat it when you crave for something sweet. Keep it refrigerated and it’ll last for a while.
By far one of my favorite healthy snacks, smoothies are another one of those snacks that my friends never believe are healthy when they taste them. It’s only when they find out what’s in it that they’re pretty shocked. I generally base my smoothies around almond milk and add to it some berries, a banana and a scoop of protein powder if I need to get some extra proteins.
Yummy Tortilla Wrap
I generally make a bunch of whole wheat tortillas over the weekend and right through the week I make myself my signature tortilla wrap that I absolutely love. I spread almond butter or peanut butter across the tortilla, cut up some veggies, spread ‘em and bam! My yummy tortilla wrap is ready to eat. At times I even throw in cut up fruits and berries instead of vegetables as an alternative choice.
Those are 7 tasty snacks right from my recipe book that your dietician will be so proud of. They’re great to consume between meals, busy with work or when you’re traveling. Do share with everyone your favorite tasty (but healthy) snacks in the comments section below.
