This Is How You Can Avoid A Slow Metabolism

No one wants to age. As if wrinkles and crow’s feet weren’t enough of a side effect, aging also leaves you with a slowed-down metabolism, and that can have some pretty devastating effects on your body and your health.

Our metabolisms naturally slow down as we age, making it harder to burn calories and keep fat from storing up in our bodies. That means weight gain, sluggishness, fatigue and more.

It’s not fun to say the least.

Fortunately, you don’t have to be a victim for too long. I’ve got some handy tips for keeping your metabolism in tip-top shape – no matter what age you may be. Try them out for yourself:

Build up your muscle water-dumbell

The more muscle mass you have, the more calories your body burns – even when at rest. Now, this doesn’t mean you should go out and become a body builder, but start working weight training into your weekly exercise routine. Strengthen your arms, legs and core, and you’ll give yourself a metabolism boost in no time.

Vary it up

Running the same route and doing the same routine over and over again can put your metabolism in standby mode. Help keep it guessing by varying your workouts and adding short, fast-paced bursts of energy to your runs, walks or swims.

Watch your hormone levels

Schedule a check-up with your doctor, and have your hormone levels looked at. If they’re off, it could be causing weight gain, overeating or a slow metabolism. These levels can often be fixed with dietary changes and supplements.

Eat plenty in the mornings

Skipping breakfast or eating too little in the mornings can be a grave mistake if your metabolism is on the decline. You need to keep your appetite sated, or your metabolism will start to wane. Be sure to eat a full breakfast every day, one that includes a protein, fiber and some good quality carbs.

Sleep and drink moresleep

More sleep and more water can both help you in the metabolism department. Do what you can to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night, and drink about 2 to 3 liters of water every day. This will keep your metabolism in top shape.

Avoid stress

Stress is a well-known culprit when it comes to weight can. It can increase your cortisol levels and make you overeat, gain weight and have a slow metabolism. Try to avoid stress as much as possible, and if you’re feeling a little anxious, sit down for some deep breathing or meditation.

Get plenty of omega-3s

Omega-3s help to balance out your blood sugar, reduce inflammation and, of course, regulate your metabolism, and all of these things can help you lose weight and stay healthy. Try to eat plenty of fatty fish, like salmon and tuna, or take daily omega-3 supplements to help.

Grab some teagreen tea

Tea, particularly the green kind, is full of catechin, an ingredient known to boost metabolism. Try drinking three to five cups of green tea a day for best results.
