Fitness Strategies To Steer Clear Of

When you think about losing weight and getting fit, there are probably a number of tips and tricks that you can think of that people have suggested over the years. Celebrities, magazine articles, and even nutritionists boast of a number of methods that supposedly allow the average person to slim down and maintain a healthier lifestyle. While this can be helpful if you’re not quite sure where to get started, it can also be confusing, as some of the advice being given don’t really add up to how you should be caring for your body. Below are a number of fitness strategies that you should avoid if you want to get fit in a beneficial way that will allow for long lasting results.

Eliminating or Reducing Carbs

Whether you’re new to the dieting world, or you’ve been yo-yoing for years, you’ve likely heard of the large variety of low carb and no carb diets on the market today. It seems that more and more fad diets are suggesting that you lessen your carb intake, or eliminate them altogether. Yes, it’s true that a lot of the sugars and excess fat that your body retains can come from carbohydrates, but your body also requires carbohydrates as an energy source. The key is to choose carbs that pack power by sticking to whole ingredients rather than choosing refined, sugary snacks. Women’s Health Magazine says:

Giving up entire food groups can lead to a nutritional deficiency—not to mention trigger major cravings for whatever food has been cut. Rather than, say, eliminating all carbohydrates, focus on whole grains and remember to watch out for portion control.

Long grain rice, whole wheat pasta, multigrain breads, quinoa, steel cut oats, and other whole grains and natural foods have plenty of nutrients that your body needs to stay in shape and keep up high energy levels to perform well during physical activities.

Skipping Muscle Building Exercises

Many women feel that by taking part in muscle building exercises such as weight lifting they’ll begin to lose their feminine curves and shape up like a man. While it’s true that you might tone up and build a little strength and muscle while you’re doing it, your body isn’t going to change as dramatically as you think, or not in any masculine way at least. You’ll see changes in the definition of your arms, legs, torso, back, and shoulders, as well as anywhere else that you begin to work out properly. Don’t think about it like you’re bulking up, think about it as though you’re refining the shape of your limbs and muscles, and working on gaining that washboard stomach and bikini-worthy thighs you’ve always wanted. Summer might be ending soon, but that’s no reason to forget about trying to achieve a bathing suit body.

Trying To Get Thin Quick With Supplementsfresh-fruit-vegetables

There is no fast and easy way to get fit without putting in a little effort and some healthy eating. No matter what you’ve seen on television, heard in a radio ad, or seen on the internet, there is no small capsule, pill, or beverage that is going to burn up all of your excess fat molecules overnight. There might be a few different ingredients in some diet aids and supplements that help speed up your metabolism, or give you more energy for your workouts, but these things can be gained naturally if you’re willing to work at it. Kathleen M Zelman of Web MD explains:

Unlike makers of prescription drugs, companies that make supplements don’t have to prove that their products are safe or effective before putting them on the market. Even products that claim to be natural aren’t necessarily safe or good for you.

It’s a good idea to always ask your doctor before taking on any new supplements that are going to be used long term. Similar to the way you would consult a medical expert before taking a new medication, changing your health and the natural balance of your body through the use of pills and other substances can affect you more than you might think.

Relying On One Method Of Weight Loss

One of the worst habits to form when you’re trying to slim down is to focus on only one thing at a time. Some people diet to lose weight, while others don’t change their nutritional habits at all but simply begin to hit the gym more. It’s true that working out daily can help keep you in better shape and eating proper meals rather than whatever you can pick up at a fast food window will definitely improve your figure. However, neither of these methods of weight loss will give you the body that you want permanently. Nicole Nichols of Spark People suggest:

Exercise alone will not help you lose weight. For emphasis, I’ll say it again. If you are relying on exercise alone to lose weight, you are fighting an uphill battle.

To lose weight and keep it off you must combine the best of both worlds and create a life changing meal plan and exercise routine to encourage weight loss and healthy living forever, not just until you fit into a certain outfit, or reach a weight goal when you step on the scale. Gaining back all of the weight that you’ve just worked so hard to lose is almost guaranteed if you only depend on one form of fitness to get you where you want to be.

Giving Into Stressors And Allowing Yourself To Get Overwhelmedyoga woman

Among all of the problems that can occur when you’re trying to lose weight, allowing yourself to give in to stress can be one of the worst. It’s good to get pumped up for a workout and to try your best to stay on track as far as healthy eating goes, but don’t stress yourself out over these things or the effect could be negative; mindbodygreen.com states:

Stress can impact your weight in a number of ways. Long term stress = high cortisol, which is linked to blood sugar imbalance and weight gain around the mid-section.

Take your time, make a plan, and reach your goals at a healthy and safe speed. The more laid back and realistic you are about losing weight, the more likely you are to keep it off.
