Dancing To Lose Weight And Get Healthy

One great thing that most women have in common is the love of music and dance, and this is a huge advantage when it comes time to lose weight. You don’t have to have rhythm or be in amazing shape to enjoy dancing as a workout, and you don’t even have to worry about the way you look in the eyes of other people. There are various ways to incorporate dance into your day to boost your metabolism, burn calories, and increase strength and endurance.

Taking a Class

If you’re one of those brave souls who don’t mind shaking their booty in a room full of people then you can invest in a dance class, or even look for dancing packages at your local gym. Many new programs include hip hop, pop, and salsa style dancing in fitness routines for both men and women to utilize as a weight loss tool. These classes can be available daily or weekly in many gym settings and are usually included with the payments for the membership that you’ll already have; states:

Zumba aerobic dance classes generally last about an hour, and consist of a combination of Latin American dances, hip-hop, belly dancing and other dance styles.

You can also look for local dance classes in your community online or through community bulletins. Many cities have ballet, jazz, highland, tap, swing, salsa, and various others that can be learned through group or private lessons, and while these can be slightly more expensive than other methods of dance, it can also be fun, and give you the confidence that you need to dance more in other settings as well.

Make It A Night Out

Dancing doesn’t always have to be confined to a program or class; you can make your fitness routine fun while out dancewith friends, by choosing a night out dancing rather than going out for dinner and a movie. Of course, if you do go to a dance club then you might want to keep your alcohol consumption to a minimum as drinking alcohol can cause weight gain rather than loss. It can also make you dehydrated and could be the cause for injury if too much is consumed. Fit Day says:

To lose weight by dancing, you should strive for at least 20 minutes of time with an accelerated heart-rate at least 4-5 days a week. You should start with a 5 minute warm-up and end with a 5 minute cool-down which means 30 minutes, 4-5 times a week.

Eat light before you head out to the dance floor, and be confident so that you bust out your best moves. Remember that the longer you keep moving the more calories you’ll burn.refrigerator

Eat Like A Dancer

Of course, movement alone isn’t going to shed those pounds, so you should also consider eating more consciously, and while this can seem difficult at first, it will become second nature once you’ve set a routine and have made a meal plan. Dance Magazine suggests:

Extra pounds will fall off naturally if you focus on foods that benefit your body instead of obsessively shunning those that could make you fat.

Select ingredients that are fresh, wholesome, clean, and that you enjoy eating so that you won’t resent them. Incorporate these foods, not only into your own lifestyle, but your family’s lifestyle as well. You can also think about getting your family up and moving by having a family dance night in your living room. There are plenty of video games and online videos that you can use to get your spouse and kids up and moving. If you’re single, you can invite over a group of friends to do the same.
